Built in 1865 near the railroad station, the Euler Hotel is a traditional property, elegantly detailed in blue and white, with grey stone half columns. Though small, the bright lobby is grandly appointed, with high ceilings and marble. Leading off from it, there are several tables and comfortable chairs, which form a kind of lounge area, where guests can meet and relax at their leisure. The 66 medium sized rooms luxuriously panelled and impeccably appointed, have played host to everyone from Greta Garbo and Josephine Baker to Elizabeth Taylor and Luciano Pavarotti over the years. They feature original paintings, some period furnishings and spacious closets. All are clean and well maintained, as are the marble en suite bathrooms. The chandeliered dining room, Le Bonheure, serves mainly French with a lot of fish and a changing menu that takes advantage of the best of seasonal produce. Alternatively, Le Jardin Euler allows guests to dine on a lovely summer terrace, while the famous Euler bar is richly ornamented with leather, wood, and red velvet, and is a favourite among visiting businesspeople and local bankers.
